Etiquette

General fishing and boating suggested etiquette will be posted here. Things in this page are not rules, but they are things you should certainly think about when fishing with somebody else.

Being a good Pro

I will be posting some suggestions as to how to be a good host and things you might want to keep in mind anytime you have somebody fishing as a guest in the back of your boat.

  1. Have your boat in the water well before first light.
  2. Communicate with your amateur what they should bring and how much room you have in your boat.
  3. Ask your amateur partner if they have a life jacket.  (You are required to have them for every person in the boat. Along with a throwable too.)
  4. Charge your batteries and check out your boat a couple days before the tournament so everything is ready.
  5. Make sure you have a fishing seat for your parnter.  (A back fishing seat is required in the rules.)  If you have more than one ask them if they would like a tall seat or a short seat.
  6. Give a wide berth to other boaters when on plane.
  7. Ask the amateur in the back of the boat if he is willing to split gas costs BEFORE deciding to run 30 miles up river to go fishing in Blythe.
  8. Keep your boat in good running order.

Being a good Amateur

There will be some suggestions here on how to be a good guest in the back of somebody else's boat.

  1. If you have a suitable boat, then fish as a pro.  You will have plenty of opportunities to fish with talented and knowledgable anglers and learn, whether  you are fishing out of your own boat or somebody elses.
  2. Bring what you need to fish, eat, and drink for the day, but leave the rest of the truck load of stuff at home.
  3. Ask the pro you draw (if you can) what to expect and how many rods, etc you can bring.
  4. Offer to help with fuel costs.
  5. Don't spill stuff in the boat.  Especially bait dyes.  If you do clean it up and/or fix it.
  6. If you break something offer to fix it or pay to have it fixed.
  7. Bring your own life jacket.
  8. Coordinate with your boater about where to stow and secure your stuff.
  9. Let the new guy have a chance to fish.
